The Abbey Choir is a voluntary choir with members drawn from Tewkesbury and the surrounding area.
Each Sunday a choir of boys, girls and men sing at the 11.00am Sung Eucharist, whilst Evensong at 5.00pm is sung by a mixed choir of ladies and men.
The full choir joins forces for special Feast Days and certain other occasions. A wide range of repertoire is sung, ranging from Plainsong to music by modern composers.
The boys and girls of the choir attend a variety of schools in the area and they rehearse twice a week at the Abbey, on Thursday and Friday evenings. The adults rehearse on Fridays also. The boys attend a youth group once a month and there is an enthusiastic Choir Association which supports the choir financially and arranges social events throughout the year.
In recent years the choir has sung in the Cathedrals of Gloucester, Bristol, Birmingham and Coventry, and has appeared on radio and television. The choir is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music, and many of the choristers work towards their Dean’s and Bishop’s awards. Courses run by the RSCM are regularly attended by members of the choir.
