Orlando Jopling

Orlando Jopling has conducted the English Chamber Orchestra, the London Mozart Players, Figaro for Savoy Opera, The Merry Widow for Carl Rosa, La Scala di Seta for Independent Opera, assisted Wyn Davies for Scottish Opera, and worked with Andre Previn on A Streetcar Named Desire. He is musical director of Stanley Hall Opera, with whom he has conducted Cosi fan tutte, Figaro, Don Pasquale, the first ever professional production in English of Rossini's early comic opera La Pietra del Paragone, Falstaff and Cenerentola. After a music degree from Cambridge University, Orlando Jopling studied with Sir Colin Davis and George Hurst at the RAM and Diego Masson at Dartington. He also studied cello with William Pleeth and Steven Isserlis, and enjoyed a wide-ranging career as a cellist. Orlando is a recent graduate of the National Opera Studio where he won the first Leonard Hancock scholarship, and he also founded Tête à Tête, who have commissioned operas and presented the modern world première of Vivaldi's lost opera Orlando finto pazzo.

Among future plans are further recordings and concerts with the English Chamber Orchestra and operas for Independent Opera, Carl Rosa and Stanley Hall Opera.
